Webcast
Today we watched a Magic School Bus Webcast. Ms. Frizzle and her class visited the Liberty Science Center in New Jersey to learn about global warming and ways to conserve energy. They also interviewed the author and illustrator of the Magic School Bus books Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen. It was a fun learning adventure!

Hat Day
Tomorrow (4/16) I'd like to encourage everyone to bring a hat to school. The students will be allowed to wear them in the classroom during the day. During math we will be making a bar graph of our hats. It should be a fun way to learn about graphing!
I apologize, I didn't send home the students homework assignment yesterday. It will go home today. Don't fret however, the assignment isn't due for another week :)

Fractions in the Classroom
This week we've been learning about fractions in Math. Yesterday the kids played a pizza fractions game with a partner. Today we found items around the room that are divided into fractional parts and named the fractions associated with them. The students were amazed to see that fractions, just like geometric shapes, are all around us.

Dr. Seuss's Birthday
This morning we read Dr. Seuss books with our first grade reading buddies. In reading we did an author study on Dr. Seuss and learned lots of new information about his life, including he used a pen name when writing rather than his real name. This afternoon for our writing activity, the students each made their own pen name and after creating and illustrating a rhyme signed it with their new pen name. Then we put our writing around the room and tried to figure out who each piece of writing belonged to.
